Cornelia Funke : An Extrordinary Life
Cornelia Funke was born on December 10, 1958, to parents Karl Heinz ( often called Charly) and Helmi Funke. She grew up in Dorsten, a town located in the northern edge of the German Ruhr region. One lives a simple life in Dorsten. That's why young women pack their things and leave for a new life.
Cornelia was always a good student. She loved to write essays, but they were always to long, and not always strictly on topic. When she moved to Hamburg , she didn't set out to be an author. When she was eighteen, she left Dorsten to study at the University of Hamburg, where she earned a degree in education theory. Not sure what to do after graduation, she decided to take a course in book illustration at Hamburg State College of Design. After a few years as an illustrator, Cornelia got bored
of illustrating other people's thoughts and stories. She thought she could do better. In 1993, her first book, "Die Wilden Huhner" (or "The Wild Chicks" in English) , was published. Her first novel, The Thief Lord, was published in 2002.
